Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, starting from the Redwood City Public Library:
- Get onto Maple St heading south, then turn left onto El Camino Real. Continue for 5.4 miles, then either make a U-turn at Park Blvd and immediately turn right into our parking lot, or simply turn onto Park BLVD turn left into the other entrance to our parking lot.
- If the traffic’s bad on El Camino, you could take Maple St north and turn right onto Veterans Blvd. Get onto highway 101 and continue for 5.7 miles, then exit onto Oregon Expy. Turn right onto El Camino Real, then turn right into our parking lot immediately after the intersection with Park Blvd.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Redwood City boasts a rich history, starting with its earliest known inhabitants, the Ohlone people, and continuing through its Spanish colonial period. It became the first city incorporated in San Mateo County in 1867 and has been the county seat since 1856. The land, originally part of the Rancho de las Pulgas granted to the Argüello family in 1835, was contested after California joined the United States. In 1854, lawyer Simon M. Mezes successfully defended the claim, bought the land, and established the settlement originally named “Mezesville” — now known as Redwood City, with remnants of its early history like Mezes Park still present.
The early 20th century marked a period of significant development and cultural contribution from the local community, including the Enomoto brothers, Eikichi and Sadakusi, who were Japanese immigrants credited with potentially growing the first commercially cultivated chrysanthemums in the United States right in Redwood City. By 1926, the city’s booming chrysanthemum industry led the chamber of commerce to declare Redwood City the “Chrysanthemum Center of the World.”
